Letter from Lew – December 2021

As 2021 draws to a close, I find myself reflecting on the year that was

For us, as a business, it was certainly a mixed year with many ups and downs, and I am sure many of our customers feel the same.

With the impact of COVID-19 still very much apparent and mother nature not always on our side, like many, navigating this year has been an ongoing challenge.

For the second year, we have been impacted by the pandemic making it difficult for us to travel freely to our various Vantage branches across the country. We, therefore, were unable to connect with our customers as much as we would have liked.

Not being able to deliver our usual level of personalised service has been particularly unsatisfying to our team, especially as most farmers have been challenged with excess rain and flooding in some regions, while others continued in drought.

Mice plagues and late season frosts in some regions significantly impacted what were looking like record season harvests. This, combined with the issues of state and international border closures, have resulted in significant staff shortages at harvest time.

Despite the challenges, however, there has typically been a silver lining for most commodities with strong commodity prices resulting in favourable income across many of the agricultural sectors we serve.

Vantage also kicked off the year with a fresh, new-look website that provides our customers with an easy way to get real advice across a broad product range.

We began a new partnership with MagGrow, a technology that significantly reduces the waste associated with conventional pesticide applications, and were able to celebrate with them when MagGrow was globally recognised as the winner of the THRIVE | Bayer Sustainability Challenge for its ability to reduce waste, improve sustainability, and deliver plant protection products where they matter the most. By reducing wastage and drift, MagGrow reduces the cost of pesticides — something that is becoming increasingly important to our customers with the rapid rise of input costs. Learn more about MagGrow here.

But we couldn’t let MagGrow win all the awards. Last week we attended the 2021 Trimble Virtual Ag Connections Annual Agriculture Reseller Meeting where were awarded the 2021 Reseller of the Year ‘Growth’ award for Asia Pacific. The award demonstrates a high level of excellence, customer service, product knowledge, and a commitment to providing farmers with precision solutions. We are proud of our long connection with Trimble and are humbled to receive this award.

Finally, I would like to take the time to thank you all for your continued support. I hope you can have a restive and relaxing break over Christmas. We look forward to being Your Partner in Precision Ag in the new year.
